Announcements for April 29-May 3

Hi PPPS Families!

A few announcements for next week:

1. On Monday (4/29), our church is having an event in the gym upstairs, so we will need everyone to pick up their children from the downstairs big room. (4's/TK...please pull into the roundabout rather than picking up from upstairs.)

2. Don't forget our 30th Birthday Party on Thursday, May 2nd at 5:30! This is your last opportunity to earn volunteer hours. All hours not worked by this date will be invoiced on May 3rd.

3. Payment for the 2013/2014 school year is due by May 1st. If you are unsure of your remaining balance, please stop by the office next week.

4. Preschool and Teacher Evaluation forms are going home next week. Please fill these out with your feedback, and drop them off the marked basket by our front door. We appreciate your comments!

Thanks, and have a great weekend!

Fire Truck Rescheduled

Unfortunately, the fire truck was unable to visit the Preschool this morning, but they have rescheduled for tomorrow morning (Thursday, 2/21) at 10am.

We thank all the families who made a special trip to the Preschool this morning, and we would like to invite families who do not attend Preschool on Thursdays to come tomorrow at 10am.

Thank you for understanding that when emergency services schedule a visit, they sometimes get called out on a real emergency. We hope that many of our Monday/Wednesday/Friday students will be able to join us tomorrow!

Spring Art Show & Basket Raffle

Preparations are underway for our Spring Art Show & Basket Raffle.  With that in mind, we would like to give all our families an opportunity to participate in this great event. The Spring Art Show and Basket Raffle will be held on Tuesday, March 12 from 6:30pm until 7:30pm.

Our Spring Show baskets will focus on different themes. We ask that you look over the themes and donate to the basket of your choice. The themes include water play, sand play, construction play, nature play, and dramatic play. (A letter will come home with your child with more specific ideas for each basket.) These baskets will be raffled off during the art show.

We are aware that many families in our program have their own businesses, have special talents and skills, etc.  We are asking for donations of gift cards, goods, and services to be included within our Basket Raffle.

All businesses will receive advertisement at our event and will be included on our Tree of Thanks and listed in the April newsletter. This is a great way for families to get the word out about their services and goods.

On March 12, the preschool will be having a 2 hour day.  We are looking for volunteers for setting up the art show and for providing childcare during set up.  This would be from 11:30am – 2:00pm but can be done in shifts.

We would also like volunteers in the days prior to the show to mount and tag the art work.  This can be done at home if preferred.

Contact the preschool office with any questions.  All donations are due on or before Wednesday, March 6.  Thanks so much for your help!

A Visit from the Fire Station

On Wednesday February 20th, Fire Station 9 will be bringing a fire truck to the Preschool to do a demonstration (barring any emergencies!).  They will be here at 10am.

We would like to invite our families that do not attend preschool on Wednesday to stop by if they are available to do so.

We would like to show our appreciation to our firemen and women by presenting them with a goodie basket.  If you are able to contribute either a treat or a donation, please drop it off by the preschool office before the 20th.

Thank You!

Important Announcement

January 31, 2013

Dear Families and Staff,

It is with mixed emotion that the Child Development Committee has received and accepted the resignation of Vicki Coger. We recognized that this departure is not what Vicki or the preschool had hoped for, however necessary due to the increased care for her special needs child.  We thank her for her years of service and support her in this most difficult decision.

The preschool remains a place of excitement, joy and wonderful learning opportunities for our students and staff.  Our philosophy is thriving, and will continue to be nurtured by the strong staff and support system we already have in place.

With that being said, the Child Development Committee has promoted Mrs. Stacey Rommich to the position of Director of Providence Presbyterian Preschool effective February 1, 2013.  We are overjoyed with the addition of Stacey as our new Director and are confident in the experience, knowledge, support and love she brings to our program, its children, families and staff. Please join us in congratulating her and supporting her in her new role here at PPPS.

Although Stacey will assume the Directorship beginning this Friday a Transition Plan is in effect and over the next few weeks Vicki will be on hand to provide support to Stacey and the staff. We know that the community of PPPS will embrace our staff and administration and provide the time needed to make this transition as seamless as possible.

We thank you for your continued support of our program.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Marcia H. Ingle, Chairperson
PPC Child Development Committee

A Message from the Director

Dear Providence Presbyterian Preschool Families,

It is impossible to understand the events which took place at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut this past Friday. As a parent I am heartbroken for the many families for whom life will never be the same.  As your preschool director  the safety of our children and staff has always been the top priority. Our staff takes very seriously the responsibility for the well being of your children.  Please know that as a preschool we will continue to be diligent in our efforts.

Although our preschool may be small many safety procedures are in place to address emergency situations. Drills are practiced by staff and students at regular intervals. This week our staff will be meeting to review our safety procedures in our continued effort to provide the most secure environment for all.  We will, as always strive to provide a preschool where your children feel that...

This is a good place to be .
You belong here
You are a valued member of this community.
This is a place you can trust.
This is a safe place.

Some of you may be fielding very difficult questions from your children.  We are in the process of compiling a list of resources that may be helpful to your family should this be a concern. It will be available in the preschool office if needed.  Please know that at preschool it is not our intention to discuss this incident. We will, if comments and concerns are expressed reassure the children that we love them and that they are safe.  Should additional questions arise in our classrooms we will ask that parents address those at home.

As an involved preschool community we ask that you join in our efforts to help insure the safety and well being of all.  Please refrain, while on our campus from discussing this incident in front of the children.  Please review pages 12-15 of our Family Handbook which outlines several of our Safety Procedures.

Many of our families may be visiting our preschool this week for Christmas celebrations. Staff will be on hand to monitor our doors during arrival and dismissal. We ask your cooperation as anyone entering our facility during the preschool operating day will need to sign in and receive a visitors sticker.  We ask for your patience as if the staff member which greets you is not familiar with you, you may be asked to provide identification.

As we reflect on the tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary let us rededicate ourselves to our preschool community and continue to love and support one another. As we remember the families of Newtown, CT in our thoughts and prayers we will continue to provide a loving and safe environment for our children, families and staff.

Thank you for all that you do for our program. As always should you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me directly.

Blessings!
Vicki

Calendar Schedule Change

Due to both CMS and Union County Schools’ schedules,
Providence Presbyterian Preschool will be closed on Friday, December 21, 2012. We were originally scheduled to be open on this date but did not realize that both of our major school systems would already be closed for the holidays. We apologize for this late change in the schedule, but we do hope that you will enjoy beginning our Christmas break one day early!
Due to our oversight in originally scheduling December 21st as a school day, Monday, February 11th will now be a FULL school day. (It was scheduled to be a two-hour day.)

Please mark your calendars to show no school on 12/21 and a full school day on 2/11.

Thank you for your cooperation!

Assistant Director Begins Today

November 13, 2012
Dear Staff and Families:

It is with great excitement PPPS announces that Mrs. Stacey Rommich has been offered and has accepted the Assistant Director position at Providence Presbyterian Preschool.  Mrs. Rommich joins the Administrative team with a background in education and office management. She has worked within our preschool setting as a substitute for this year and experienced our program as a parent prior to that.

The Board and Administration is grateful for the opportunity to employ an Assistant Director as our program has grown and is in need of additional Administrative support personnel. We are pleased to be able to provide the preschool with this support for administration, staff and parents alike.

Mrs. Rommich will handle the administrative duties formerly held by an administrative assistant as well as many additional responsibilities.  She will work along side our Director, Mrs. Vicki Coger in upholding the philosophy of our program.  Mrs. Rommich is a wonderful fit for this newly created position.

We ask for your support as Mrs. Rommich begins her new role today, Tuesday November 13.  Please join us in welcoming and congratulating her as our Assistant Director!

Have a wonderful week!

Blessings!

Vicki Coger,
Director

Student 2 Hour Day

This Monday, September 17 will be our first 2 hour day for students.  Dismissal for all classes will be at 11:30.  Please be sure to adjust your schedule accordingly to pick up on time.
Teachers will be participating in a training opportunity.

Why Two Hour Days?
PPPS has two hour days about once a month for students.  This time replaces the traditional Teacher Work Days in other school schedules.
Students will be dismissed at 11:30 on 2 hour days.  Teachers and staff remain and utilize this time for staff development, training, team building, workshops and planning. This time is extremely valuable to the further education of our teachers and staff and our ability to provide an excellent, enriching environment for your children.
