A Message from the Director

Dear Providence Presbyterian Preschool Families,

It is impossible to understand the events which took place at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut this past Friday. As a parent I am heartbroken for the many families for whom life will never be the same.  As your preschool director  the safety of our children and staff has always been the top priority. Our staff takes very seriously the responsibility for the well being of your children.  Please know that as a preschool we will continue to be diligent in our efforts.

Although our preschool may be small many safety procedures are in place to address emergency situations. Drills are practiced by staff and students at regular intervals. This week our staff will be meeting to review our safety procedures in our continued effort to provide the most secure environment for all.  We will, as always strive to provide a preschool where your children feel that...

This is a good place to be .
You belong here
You are a valued member of this community.
This is a place you can trust.
This is a safe place.

Some of you may be fielding very difficult questions from your children.  We are in the process of compiling a list of resources that may be helpful to your family should this be a concern. It will be available in the preschool office if needed.  Please know that at preschool it is not our intention to discuss this incident. We will, if comments and concerns are expressed reassure the children that we love them and that they are safe.  Should additional questions arise in our classrooms we will ask that parents address those at home.

As an involved preschool community we ask that you join in our efforts to help insure the safety and well being of all.  Please refrain, while on our campus from discussing this incident in front of the children.  Please review pages 12-15 of our Family Handbook which outlines several of our Safety Procedures.

Many of our families may be visiting our preschool this week for Christmas celebrations. Staff will be on hand to monitor our doors during arrival and dismissal. We ask your cooperation as anyone entering our facility during the preschool operating day will need to sign in and receive a visitors sticker.  We ask for your patience as if the staff member which greets you is not familiar with you, you may be asked to provide identification.

As we reflect on the tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary let us rededicate ourselves to our preschool community and continue to love and support one another. As we remember the families of Newtown, CT in our thoughts and prayers we will continue to provide a loving and safe environment for our children, families and staff.

Thank you for all that you do for our program. As always should you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me directly.

Blessings!
Vicki
